Por la segunda fecha del Grupo B, América pudo sacarse los fantasmas que lo perseguían luego de la derrota que recibió en la primera fecha. Y contra Popayán en el segundo partido del cuadrangular, logró sus primeros tres puntos para buscar el tan anhelado ascenso.

Unas de las cosas que más preocupaba a los hinchas escarlatas era el bajo nivel futbolístico mostrado por el equipo, después de una fase previa muy buena en lo táctico, no mostró lo mismo ante el Quíndio  en Armenia. Ayer pudo sacarse ese peso de encima y según el estratega del América, sus jugadores volvieron a tomar la senda.

«En Armenia no jugamos fútbol, fue una peloteadera que aprovechó el Quindío. El América del primer tiempo, fue el de todo el Torneo, el de la regularidad, la posesión de la pelota, con varias opciones de gol. Mis jugadores reaccionaron y volvieron a tomar la senda”, declaró Hernán Torres.

El técnico hizo un balance breve del equipo de los dos tiempos y se mostró satisfecho por la gran actuación de sus jugadores.

«Había que ganar sí o sí, era la obligación. Hicimos un primer tiempo brillante y con mucha intensidad. Con el 2-0, quisimos recuperarnos con el balón en los pies, bajamos la intensidad, el ritmo. Fue un segundo tiempo de trámite. Eso no empaña el gran trabajo que hicieron los jugadores”.

También habló de la presión ejercida por su hinchada debido a que un equipo como el América, ya tiene la necesidad de jugar en primera división, después de tantos años en la B jugando el Torneo Águila.

«Para el partido me preocupaba una sola cosa y se lo dije al grupo durante toda la semana, me preocupaba la presión de la hinchada. Tenemos que ganarle a la presión y eso hizo el equipo. El jugador del América no se asustó y eso me llena de alegría, porque en estas instancias prevalece la jerarquía. Sabíamos que era un partido candente y no dejamos crecer al rival”.
