Juan David Valencia, un lateral izquierdo de 30 años, llega a Independiente Medellín para la presente temporada. Viene de Santa fe, club en el cual no le fue muy bien y espera que después de aprobar los exámenes médicos, el técnico Leonel Álvarez le de minutos en alguna de las tres competencias que disputará el ‘rojo paisa’.

Valencia firmó contrato con Santa fe por tres años y el club capitalino tiene la mayor parte de de los derechos deportivos del jugador. Así las cosas, el club ‘cardenal’ lo prestó al actual campeón por seis meses con opción de compra. En el cuadro ‘albirojo’, el lateral solo actuó 588 minutos.

El  antioqueño, ya ha estado en las filas del ‘poderoso’, primero en el 2004, cuando debutó en el fútbol profesional, época en la que tuvo su primera experiencia en la Copa Libertadores. La segunda vez que vistió la casaca del ‘poderoso’, fue bajo la dirección de Leonel Álvarez, con quien celebró el campeonato del 2009 y quien lo dirigirá nuevamente este semestre.

Entre otros equipos con los que ha jugado Valencia, se encuentra Atlético Huila, Junior, Atlético Nacional y estuvo un año en Venezuela con Caracas F.C, También fue convocado a la Selección Colombia que participó en la Copa América 2011, realizada en Argentina, sin embargo no tuvo minutos en ese campeonato.

En Independiente Medellín, Valencia podrá disputar Liga Águila, Copa Águila y Copa Sudamericana.
