Rionegro y Nacional no se sacaron diferencias en la ida.

Todos los partidos de cuartos de final prometen ser emocionantes, y el primero de todos no defraudó. En un partido bastante frenético y dinámico, Rionegro Águilas y Atlético Nacional empataron 1-1, dejando así la definición de la serie en el aire y con expectativa hasta el próximo domingo.

Las mayores emociones se dieron en el primer tiempo, que fue la instancia del partido en la que se anotaron los goles. Contrario a lo que muchos imaginaban en la previa, el equipo que desde el inicio se propuso controlar el balón fue el local, dejando así a Nacional con la opción de salir de contraataque. El fruto de ese dominio de balón se dio temprano, cuando al minuto 6 Jonathan Álvarez marco un gran gol de media distancia, al ganarle las espaldas a Alex Mejia y así dejar sin respuesta al portero Armani. Esto hizo que Nacional tuviera la responsabilidad de buscar el gol y hacer así atractivo el juego. Luego, en una opción que surgió de un ataque previo del local, Daniel Bocanegra le pasó el balón a Orlando Berrío, quien sigue ratificando su buen momento y desbordó por la banda derecha para tirar un centro raso que conectó Andrés Ibargüen por el costado opuesto para enviar al fondo de la red.

En el segundo tiempo el partido decayó un poco en intensidad, pero sin dejar de ser atractivo. La tónica cambió y el que ahora se hizo cargo de llevar el juego y mantener el balón fue Nacional, que buscaba vulnerar el arco de Torresagasti, aunque desafortunadamente tuvieron unas muy escasas oportunidades para hacerlo, pero en general fue así para los dos equipos, hubieron pocas ocasiones de parte y parte, debido a que el partido se volvió luchado en la mitad de campo.

Al final del encuentro, y desgraciadamente para los verdolagas, fue expulsado Orlando Berrio al minuto 90 por pegar un codazo al momento de saltar a cabecear un balón, lo cual constituye una baja muy sensible para los dirigidos por Reinaldo Rueda, ya que a este hecho se le suman las bajas en la misma posición de Marlos Moreno (Copa América) y Jonathan Copete (transferido al Santos de Brasil).
