El jugador colombiano fue presentado hoy como nuevo jugador del Atlético de Madrid y firmó por cinco temporadas.
Rafael Santos Borré fue presentado como nuevo refuerzo del conjunto dirigido por «el cholo» Simeone y expresó que hará todo lo posible para quedarse en el equipo colchonero ya que puede irse de préstamo a un club de menor categoría. Además expresó que si es necesario «sudar gotas de sangre», lo hará:
«Me he sentido muy bien en el Atlético, como en casa. Aquí hay una gran familia. Es un sueño estar en un club grande como éste. Haré todo lo posible por quedarme aquí y si tengo que sudar gotas de sangre lo haré».
Además, el delantero habló que no sabe nada acerca de su futuro ya que no ha hablado con Simeone si continuará en el Atlético o se irá para tener más minutos en otro equipo. Durante toda la rueda de prensa mostró su ilusión de poder jugar con el equipo rojiblanco:
«Pienso en esforzarme mucho, trabajar mucho, aportar mucho trabajo al equipo, aprender mucho de los delanteros que tengo como compañeros e intentar irme ganando un espacio dentro de la plantilla y poco a poco un sitio en el club».
Por otro lado, el jugador colombiano habló sobre sus compañeros y la los ve como unas personas que le pueden aportar mucho para seguir mejorando futbolisticamente:
«Tengo grandes compañeros de nivel elite que vienen haciendo las cosas muy bien. Quiero aprender mucho de cada uno de ellos y así ganarme un espacio dentro del plantel y juntos conseguir muchas victorias y muchos títulos para el Atlético».
Por último le preguntaron sobre la posible llegada de Gameiro y de Diego Costa al Atlético de Madrid, pues serían sus principales contendientes para la posición:
«He visto jugar a los dos. Son grandes futbolistas. Para mí sería muy bueno que llegara cualquiera de los dos, porque podría aprender mucho de la capacidad que ellos tienen y sus movimientos para romper defensas rivales».
