Luego de su ultimo juego con victoria ante Boyaca Chico por 4-0, el equipo de la mayoría se ubica noveno con 9 unidades, a tan solo un punto de entrar al grupo de los ocho, su rival de turno será Independiente Medellin que se encuentra cuarto con 12 puntos, y que viene de caer ante Once Caldas por tres goles a dos en la ciudad de Manizales por la fecha 7 de la Liga Águila 2018-I.

Los «Aseguradores» esperan mantener el nivel alto ante el «poderoso de la montaña», que es uno de los mejores equipos con rendimiento en este torneo. La Equidad han conseguido dos empates y una derrota jugando como visitantes en la presente Liga, por lo que esperarán conseguir su primer triunfo a domicilio en el Atanasio Girardot.

El juego se iniciará a las 8 de la noche en el Atanasio Girardot, con transmisión del canal Win Sports.

Y el último encuentro entre estos dos elencos fue 21 de octubre de 2017 por la fecha 16 del finalizacion, el partido finalizo en empate a dos goles con anotaciones de Carmelo Valencia y Mauricio Restrepo por parte de Equidad y Rodrigo Erramuspe en dos ocasiones para el «Poderoso».
