Históricamente a Nacional no le ha ido muy bien frente a  equipos de Brasil, en 23 visitas tan solo ganó 4 veces, la última de ellas este mismo año por Copa Libertadores nada más y nada menos que ante Sao Paulo con dos anotaciones de Miguel Borja. 

Para este partido el verde de la montaña tendrá dos cambios en su nómina por suspensión, Andrés Ibargüen y Felipe Aguilar reemplazaran a Jhon Édison Mosquera y Alexis Henríquez. El joven zaguero que hizo parte de la selección olímpica en Río, en charla con «Mi Nacional» contó que en entrenamiento se hizo especial énfasis en evitar faltas cerca al área y los tiros de esquina pues el cuadro local es especialista en pelota quieta.
