El volante del Real Madrid fue muy enfático en señalar que la cancha del Metropolitano no se encuentra en las mejores condiciones, además de que indicó que no es un terreno apto para la Selección, específicamente porque en la actualidad sigue siendo puro barro y arena y no está en óptimas condiciones.

«Hace unos meses habíamos hablado respecto al tema, pero al parecer no se ha hecho demasiado por ello» afirmó. 

El 10 colombiano a su vez dijo que esto no se puede tomar como excusa ni mucho menos, pero que es algo que los encargados del manejo y mantenimiento del gramado deben de estar pendientes sobre esta situación, aunque eso sí, descartó que tenga que ser un motivo por el que tuvieran que cambiar la sede, más por el tema de el  aliento que siempre muestra la afición barranquillera y que esa ciudad siempre los ha recibido de una gran manera, además los éxitos que han logrado allí, recientemente y precisamente ante Chile, cuando en 2013 lograban asegurar su paso a Brasil 2014 en aquel recordado 3-3.

Claro que James no es el único que se ha pronunciado respecto al tema, inclusive el propio entrenador José Pékerman ya había señalado cuando transcurría el mes de agosto que estaban sorprendidos por el pésimo estado en que se encontraba la cancha del Metropolitano, que en definitiva estaba muy malo; así como Farid Díaz en su momento también había dicho que para él debían de trabajar en el terreno si querían que el combinado nacional tuviera un mejor desempeño y que un factor que increíblemente sucedía era de que con 5 minutos que lloviera ya podía convetirse en un desastre.

Por el momento se espera que la alcaldía de la ciudad, en conjunto con la administración puedan dar arreglos a la cancha, más teniendo en cuenta que el Junior no puede clasificar a los cuadrangulares, por lo que se le puede dar un mejor tratamiento, que según dicen podría tardar alrededor de un mes para que levanten el gramado actual y le puedan realizar una buena recuperación.
