Inicia la denominada «Jornada de Clásicos», y con ella vuelven a enfrentarse el Pasto, que está metido entre los tres primeros lugares de la clasificación general, y el Cortuluá, de una discreta campaña hasta el momento en la Liga Águila y que necesita sumar de a tres si no quiere empezar a quedar relegado en el campeonato y, de la misma manera, en la zona del descenso.

Los comandados por el ex técnico del Once Caldas y Bucaramanga, Flavio Torres, tienen ganas de volver a ganar, esto debido a los recientes resultados, la derrota en su visita al Medellín por 4-1, mientras que la sorpresiva caída 3-1 en su visita al Universitario de Popayán entre semana, hacen que los nariñenses tengan mayor deseo por volver al triunfo y, además, saber que una victoria ante el Cortuluá, a quienes le ganaron 4-0 a domicilio en la fecha 1, los dejaría muy bien ubicados en la tabla general, esperando lo que hagan sus perseguidores y sus dos rivales de arriba, el DIM y Atlético Nacional, quienes disputarán el «Clásico Paisa» en horas de la noche.

Respecto al plantel, Flavio Torres tendrá dos cambios obligados en su once inicial, esto a causa de las expulsiones en el duelo ante el «Poderoso de la Monataña», donde Daniel Cataño vio el cartón rojo, de manera polémica por la supuesta agresión al volante Didier Moreno, mientras, cerca del final, Luis Payares también se debía retirar del campo de juego. Por ello, el Pasto pondría en principio a Adalberto Goiri en lugar de Payares y el posible regreso a la titular de Yesus Cabrera. Aunque no todo es malo, puesto que Yamilson Rivera, el goleador del Pasto y de la Liga Águila, vuelve tras unas cuantas semanas de estar incapacitado, por lo que resta saber si jugará desde el inicio o estará arrancando desde el banco.

El Cortuluá de Jaime de la Pava, por su parte, viene con un invicto de 4 partidos sin caídas, luego de la última sufrida ante Santa Fe en Bogotá, aunque con un saldo de un triunfo y tres igualdades, incluyendo la más reciente, ocurrida entre semana frente al Valledupar por la Copa Águila, por lo que el juego de hoy será necesario para el cuadro «Corazón» de retornar al triunfo y, además, buscar esa revancha tras el 4-0 sufrido en el Pascual Guerrero en la primera jornada. En torno al equipo que iniciaría en este encuentro, Arrechea podría regresar a la zaga central, mientras se espera que Miguel Medina, ex Santa Fe sea nuevamente titular, tras el buen juego hecho en el 2-2 ante el Tolima. Joao Rodríguez, por su parte, será baja para este partido.

  • Marcio Rodríguez Cruz, brasileño y quien jugó para ambas instituciones, es el máximo anotador de estos enfrentamientos con 5 tantos.
  • El último enfrentamiento entre ambos fue en la primera fecha de esta Liga Águila I-2017, con victoria 4-0 de los «Volcánicos», con anotaciones de Juan Gilberto Núñez, doblete del goleador Yamilson Rivera y Christian Rivera.
  • 3-0 fue la más reciente victoria del Cortuluá de visita ante el Pasto, ocurrida el 7 de febrero de 2015, en el marco de la fecha 2 de la Liga Águila I-2015, donde anotaron para los vallecaucanos, John Varela y Miguel Medina por duplicado.
  • 1-0 ganó el Pasto en el último enfrentamiento en casa, sucedido el 7 de agosto del año pasado, cuando cerca del final del juego, Cristian Nazarit anotó por medio de un penal.
  • 5 encuentros consecutivos en casa lleva Pasto sin perder, con 3 victorias y 2 empates, donde anotó 8 goles y sólo recibió uno. La última derrota en el Libertad fue ante Rionegro Águilas por 1-0 el 22 de octubre del 2016.
