A pesar de que ayer Portugal tan sólo pudo rescatar un punto en Saint Etienne frente a la debutante Islandia, uno de los mejores jugadores del mundo, Cristiano Ronaldo, consiguió este récord de igualar a Luis Figo, aquel «maestro» en sus inicios y quien le enseñó muchos detalles y jugadas.

Dicen algunos que Figo y Cristiano son dos de las joyas más preciadas que han surgido del fútbol «luso», claro, sin dejar atrás al eterno Eusebio quien en su momento fue de los mejores jugadores que existieron. Pero estos dos tuvieron momentos particulares. Cuando Ronaldo surgía en aquella Euro de 2004, Figo ya estaba entrando en su etapa media casi de su exitosa carrera. Pero igualmente no siempre fue todo felicidad,ambos estuvieron presentes y sufrieron en lo que curiosamente sería el mayor éxito de Portugal en un certamen, que fue el subcampeonato de esa Eurocopa, recordando a un Cristiano que rompía en llanto tras el gol de Charisteas para Grecia.

Con 31 años, Cristiano tiene aún fútbol que demostrar, obviamente este récord lo superará, incluso en la próxima jornada de fase de grupos, pero todavía le quedan récords por quebrar. El de mayor número de partidos disputados en Eurocopa (donde Thuram y Van der Sar tienen 16) y Cristiano suma 15, además de que si convierte gol sería el primer jugador en la historia de este certamen en anotar en 4 ediciones distintas.
